Jarel Zhang SS24
«If you’re a machine, what is your purpose, your original intent?» asks Kivelson, to which I.O. responds: «To know you»; so the question becomes what “The Very Pulse of the Machine”, third episode from the “Love, Death, Robots” series, has to do with Jarel Zhang SS24 collection recently displayed in Paris.
Using the relationship between humans and technology as the starting point for a broader investigation of the act of understanding, Jarel Zhang SS24 Collection aims to disrupt conventional prenotions and categorization of fashion genres through a renewed discovery and enhancement of the mutuality between clothing and sensations.
Displaying a wide range of designs, the collection presented a balanced mixture of technical pieces and everyday staples enriched by innovative cuts and the unexpected interplay of usually not associated fabrics.
Another key element of the presentation was the presence of 16 artists who were invited to interpret in real-time the collection through their vision: if the collection was meant to investigate understanding, it seems apt to double its representation thanks to the artists’ sketches. For Jarel Zhang clothes are all about multiplying the point of view.
