ISSEY MIYAKE SS24
For Issey Miyake SS24 Collection, artistic director and head designer Satoshi Kondo transformed the runway experience into a zenful habitat where poetic garments marked the rhythm as softly as the wind does. With an ecological and holistic approach, the collection explored the many different ways in which connections with nature are established. And as natural forces sculpt our existence, pleating, draping and layering embraced the models’ bodies giving them renewed shapes.
Coherently with Miyake’s vision for the brand, Kondo orchestrated a choreographic effort with birds’ sounds filling the space thus immersing the audience in a totalizing, and yet never overwhelming, sensorial experience.
Sensually draped dressed cinched at the waist alternated with monochromatic enormous suiting with bunched sleeves and dropped shoulders. Nature, as humans, has many faces and clothes should reflect that. Miyake’s infamous pleating was also displayed in the form of sheer dresses layered with ethereal shawls.
The collection also debuted Issey Miyake’s first New Balance collaboration with footwear that resembled a vintage-styled walking shoe or even a ballet-style shoe. Rope-resembling laces, a grippy sole and exposed foam are among the main features of this collaborative effort.
Windswept dresses, technical savviness, insane craftsmanship and the ability to channel emotions through fabrics and cuts turned a collection into one of the season’s purest and most precious moments.
