Harry Xu SS18
This spring collection seemed to be tailored for a sci-fi adventure. Harry Xu decided to build his collection on the sentiment of romanticised masculinity and contemporary sophisticated tailoring. Inspired by the Scandinavian painter Yrjö Edelmann, Xu incorporates sheer materials with floral handiwork into futuristic PVC constructions. The very drastic visual contrast between bold synthetic materials and feminine soft details insures how the collection treads the fragile line of how gender is conveyed by the man of today.
““The mirror effect acrylic is a metaphor for the tough appearance we can all use to protect ourselves - but often there is a softness inside. That softness doesn’t erase a strong, resilient core. The two can exist side by side, and that’s what I wanted to convey.””
