This season takes influence from Michiko’s childhood memories. Baseball was a very popular sport in her hometown Osaka during the 40’s and 50’s and became a huge cue of inspiration for this Spring Summer 2018 collection. Thick tartans and pinstripes are framed with lightweight nylons and tight cottons and create a strong connection to contemporary and historic sports aesthetics. Michiko’s typical unconventional silhouettes are challenged and distorted and she shows an even deeper understanding of pattern-cutting and craftsmanship. The collaboration with footwear brand Good News, who specially crated baseball themed sneakers to match the outfits, completed the vivid mood of the collection.
