Prononuce SS25
Pronounce’s SS25 collection, entitled “The Wild, Wild Garden” draws inspiration from the 1960 Hong Kong film The Wild, Wild Rose and its protagonist, the eponymous “Wild Rose” played by actress and singer, Grace Chang.
The collection, which features Pronounce’s signature winding rope motifs and traditional Chinese folk handicraft details, re-imagines Chang’s character in a modern-day context and explores themes of self-sacrifice, “wildness”, and destructiveness.
Areas of skin are intentionally exposed with handmade textile patchworks, which feature ruptured details, while three-dimensional winding ropes wrap around the wearer’s body. Traditional weaving techniques such as straw weaving, where materials from the natural world — cattail grass, corn husks, wheat straw, and tree sticks — are utilized to hand-weave small insect and plant forms that adorn a number of looks in the collection. Also notable are the use of vine elements. Resourcefully made from pieces of scrap fabric, these details can be found throughout the collection and work to echo the theme of "The Wild Garden".
