Insomni Club
Insomni Club sounds like the name of a support group for the chronically sleepless or an exclusive Japananime fan club. In reality, it is a music making powerhouse that sure knows how to pump out the jams.
Where are you based and Do you tour?
I’m based in a little house, with a big garden, close to a big city…and the ocean! I will soon prepare my vegetable garden - this year I will try to have some potatoes. I really like this house. I will play on February 10th in London and I have some gigs in France coming up as well.
You have so many cool music videos with surreal imagery. What comes first the chicken (music) or the egg (video)?
Thank you! For Christmas my father cooked me a chicken tandoori - it was amazing! I do not really know which one between music or video I think of first. When I think of one, I feel a desire for the other and instantly, it’s linked. In any case it’s the work of both that interests me the most. What also excites me is having two open programs at the same time on my computer: exporting videos in my sound software and the opposite to export sounds into my video software. I spend a lot of time watching little pieces of sounds or videos export…I’m really happy in front of my loading bar! For me, it’s really important to work on both simultaneously. Because of this, I can go deeper in order to feel more things in my works. So, I think it's not the chicken or the egg that comes first, it's more the sauce that you make!
If you had to choose a scent to represent your music what would you choose?
One of my tracks is called: Ton Odeur C’est Chez Moi.
You seem to collaborate with a lot of clothing lines and fashion labels - which ones specifically do you support? Definitely my friend Elie Gusto (@elgustache) who is preparing a workwear collection. I like who he is, and how he thinks. He says, “When you feel good in your clothes, you are good in your mind”. Doubt Clothing (@doubt_clothing) because, for me, it’s not just a fashion brand. There is something authentic in the way they collaborate with the people they are shooting or working with…they research concepts and look to the future - that I really respect, BIG UP! Shiiro (@shiro_gorgone), because, they are Shiiro.
Any specific brands, clothing labels, people you would like to work with in the future?
I would like to work with everyone and stay close to the real world. I want to keep my imagination open all my life, and I’m looking for everything and everyone real.
I would especially love to work with the below people:
- JNCO, for their bagginess
- Takashi Ito, Japanese Filmmaker (really in my dreams)
- Dior, Channel, Jacquemus
- Saint DX, French musician
- Volkswagen, for the Polo (model 2001)
- Anthony Authié, (young architect/writer/brother)
..with all my friends!
What is the last music you purchased?
London Calling - The Clash
What is the last music you stole?
A dog sound effect “woof” from a dog sound effect collection called, “woof”.
What are your thoughts on Taylor Swift's music? Do you listen to pop?
To be honest, I’m not so familiar with her work. But if you want to know: a big club with a drink where I can’t put my nose inside. You see this kind of plastic glass really tight?
(see: diagram composed by insomnia).
And, yes I listen to pop everyday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PWSanSoqU4 ! (I’m working on a new ep, stay tuned)
