Catherine Taylor
UK based, self taught, female animation specialist Catherine Taylor aka @cattytay sucked me in with her sensual white t-shirt (see above) and kept my attention with her cool, clean and restrained rag designs.
How did you learn how to do 3D design and animation?
A lot of sleepless nights during uni - I am self taught, mostly trial and error alongside YouTube tutorials.
How long have you been in this field? What is the first thing you ever designed?
I began a couple years ago, when I was actually studying textile design but wanted to use my techy brain to its advantage. The first thing I designed in 3D was a puffer jacket and it literally took me so long to get it right.
Are you really good at figure drawing? I feel like you would have to be to do what you do.
I enjoy drawing so much but I don't do it enough! I'm not the best at figures, I prefer drawing faces.
Do you listen to music while you work?
Always! At the moment it's a mixture between different things like IAMDDB, System of a Down, Drake, H.E.R and Mahalia.
In terms of fashion design, who is your dream client and what would you design for them?
I'd like to work with Burberry and create a 3D campaign where the whole collection is digitalized and made into a holographic, immersive showroom.
Are you into cartoons? Is it weird that I automatically assume that animators are into cartoons?
Aha no, more into computer games than cartoons, but it's also not that strange of an assumption. A lot of people also presume that you're going to be male. DIGI-GAL is an online platform for woman who work within 3D! @digi-gal
Have you ever designed anyone's wedding dress? Would you ever?
Haha no, but I tried to make one during college.
I love how the breasts in some of your videos jiggle. Does anyone else ever comment on this?!
Almost everyone comments on the boob jiggle! Some people have said it is hypnotic and mezmerising.
