Blvck Minoh
Meet Blvck Minoh: The Valley’s own pro baller and music maker. He preps for games by visualizing greatness. Punk and hip-hop? They’re in his veins. His lyrics? Emotive diary entries. Hollywood? That’s his life’s tale; he’s the actor, producer, frontman. His soundtrack? Read all about his forthcoming EP #AGNDA.
Blvck Minoh, a boy from the Valley who makes music and plays basketball: how do you prepare yourself before a game?
I usually sit in my thoughts and visualize. The work you put in leading up to the game sets you up to be the best possible version of yourself. I lean on this. Gameday is about internalizing all that, going out and giving all you got.
How do hip hop and punk cultures coexist in what you do? Tell us which LP made you say “now I want to write music for myself”.
I’m a punk rock kid. It lives in me. I operate from feelings always, so my pen reflects them emotions. Hip hop turned me up real young. My big sister JACK turned me up real young to Dilla, Hov, etc. She was also the first person to put me on Nirvana. She been putting me on. She is on #AGNDA.
Mötley Crüe took their name from a Shakespeare’s sonnet: do you think poetry had an influence on your musical career? Producing music is a bit like composing a poem, what do you say?
I say, if I’m not aspiring to be a sex icon like Vince Neil, what am I doing? Lyrics are poems, my thoughts are my diary. I speak these thoughts with true intention and when it takes form everything beautiful happens.
Let's talk about movies. How much Hollywood is there in what you do? I noticed that among your references there are often protagonists: would you see yourself wearing the frontman's dress in your musical career?
I think my whole life is Hollywood script worthy. I'm just waiting for Tarantino to punch it in. I’m wearing every hat playing any character. I switch up on any given moment, how can I be this or that? The #AGNDA wouldn’t allow it. Like.
You have to rewrite the soundtrack of a film: what would it be?
Anything that starts with A and ends with duh. #AGNDA HUN
Imagine: you are a producer but also a director. Tell us about the music video photography for your next LP and leave us with a Hollywood ending.
My next LP following #AGNDA “THE BLVCK PLAGUE: HELL OR HIGH WATER” will be portrayed through a short film. An intuition killer, strumming the guitar, serenading those who live for sex, drugs & rock n' roll.
