Aka Emanuela

Aka Emanuela

Emanuela is a performer and musician dedicated to producing an appealing and well-crafted sound. She is now set to begin a new chapter in her career with another excellent album, “Made In Heaven.”

As a child, the pink-obsessed artist loved to sing and continued to express herself freely throughout her youth. She studied classical music and jazz at one point, but she was more interested in writing pop tunes with an electronic touch.

Her varied expertise helps her to produce music with a distinctive sound, not just by creating compelling melodies but also by coming up with new arrangement concepts that distinguish her compositions. This is especially true with her 2019 debut single, “Final Fantasy”, which served as a terrific introduction to her music.

The artist's fervour and drive are undeniably one of the most defining features of “Swallow Me”. The vocals are lively and spontaneous, showing that this performer is actually engaged with the lyrics on a much deeper level. This isn't just a puppet vocalist shouting out catchy hooks: there's a deeper idea at work here that adds weight to the mix.

The track is Emanuela's third single off her next album, and it's a fantastic example of current hyper-pop, sounding impassioned but also incredibly energetic and unapologetic - we talk to Emanuela about her newest release, how she discovered her genre, and everything in between.

How are you finding the music scene? Is it what you expected?

At the moment, my music scene is mainly in the virtual world. In Israel, my country, there isn't much room for my kind of music. and also, it's not the place that I am aiming for. So yeah, I do shows here, and I have my people, but it's only for the meantime. I hope to get into bigger markets, I'm especially interested in England and Japan.

Tell me about the journey you have gone through. Can you highlight some of the most important moments so far?

I’ve had multiple episodes with my musical life and was learning a lot since I was young. I’ve been exposed to a lot of cultures and musical genres that encouraged me into building my character and style. Working on this new album really was a journey into shaping my artistic vision, which I now feel has got a solid direction inspired by all of my influences.

Your music is described as Hyper-pop and Electro-pop. Why and how do you think your music falls into these genres?

I think hyper pop is THE hot thing right now, and I can see why. Every new generation is more hardcore than the one before, so now people are looking for fucked up and broken sounds. My music definitely can fit into those titles of sounds. I wouldn't describe myself as a completely hyper pop artist, and I'm not a big fan of categorising music into genres, but I can understand why people categorize my music in this genre.

The colourful video for "Swallow Me" is super sensual and captivating. What was producing this video like?

From the first moment I started to build the idea for the music video, I knew I wanted it to simulate an intimate experience like the one I'm singing about on Swallow Me.

Almost like I'm singing it to you. I don't believe in filters when it comes to my art. So showing my body or being intimate with the camera didn't scare me. Also, shout out to my crew and director, Noam Vardi, that made me feel super comfy and fun on the set.

Also, what are the main inspirations behind the track?

"Swallow Me" was an attempt to make a love song that was the opposite of soft and cute. I wanted to share my emotions but in a very unapologetic, rude, and sarcastic attitude. Hip-hop music was a big inspiration for my upcoming album, and in this specific song, I wanted the production and lyrics to give that vibe of almost trap music feeling but in my way.

How do you want people to feel when listening to "Swallow Me”?

Honestly, just have fun and feel sexy. Be mad about your ex-boyfriend; celebrate being cute, celebrate being sexy. Celebrate love. Put on a cute fit and go dance.

Are you going to perform the single live? Have you got any shows lined up, can you tell us a bit about them?

At the moment, I'm working on my upcoming album's live show. For the past year and a half, I've been creating an album that's now in its final stages, and I'm super excited to have live shows soon with the fresh stuff.

This track comes before your LP release. Can you give us a hint on what to expect with that body of work?

"Swallow Me" is the 3rd single from my next album. you can stream the two others on all platforms. "Cute Life" and "Cuter." It will be my first album, so I'm really excited about it. It has literally been my dream since I was 5, not even joking. The album is very poppy yet very surreal in its sounds and productions. The vibe is very unapologetic and rude, but at the same time very cute and angelic. I can't wait to share my vision.

How would you like your music to develop even more over the next couple of years?

I'm already working on my next project, and it's completely different from everything I've ever done before. I wish to explore as much as I can and try everything that I feel like doing. I've been learning Japanese and studying the Japanese music industry for the past year. As soon as Japan is open again, I plan to move to Tokyo and start working on my music and build my base there. I'm already in contact with some of my favourite Japanese producers, so I'm very excited about the future.
