Spooktober is real, Future Pidgin is back 👻

@riarrr is an Indonesian artist and filmmaker based in Yogyakarta who for years has focused on the relationship between technologies, work, nature, visions of the world and the short circuits that these create when they come into contact with each other. Through genre cinema such as sci-fi and horror, Riar explores the possibility of a theoretical fiction that makes images explode into concepts, sounds and vice versa, making cinema a black box.
Between fossils of digital artifacts, visions of reality in which scientists oppose mediums, anti-capitalist eco-terrorism and global militarist spirits and dystopias, the multidisciplinary filmmaker brings together various conceptions of the world and reality.
Riar also plays computer music improvisations across genres and collaborates extensively with Wahono of Jakarta collective Divisi 62.
His work has been exhibited at festivals such as BFI London, Cinema du Reel, Centre Pompidou Paris, MoMa and ICA.
He is currently in residence at @almanac_eu and exhibiting in London @gasworkslondon
For Future Pidgin, in addition to the screening of ‘Notes from ‘Tellurian Drama’ (2020) and Gog Magog’ (2022), the artist will perform one of his rare sets of electronic manipulations on his laptop.
