Yelena Smith
London-based graphic artist Yelena Smith’s work consists of collages heavy with motifs of femininity and nurturing life. Her work deconstructs standardized notions of what it means to be feminine and both decenters and criticizes the male gaze. Her work displays a blankness that translates to a critique of hollow and superficial representation of women in mass media. Smith’s work goes against accepted representations of female fragility and objectification.
Yelena Smith’s work encompasses design, typography, layout, and collages. She has worked with several publications and participated in collective exhibitions world-wide.
