“Archetypal” might be the best word to define Vautrait FW24 Collection with its strive for garments that go beyond temporality. Minimalistic designs celebrating the knowledge imbued in those hands that crafted the collection and elegant, deconstructed silhouettes commanded the scene.

And yet “minimal” and “timeless” have become tricky words. In the words of the designer: «These two words were worn out and overused until they reached the point where they were emptied of their content. My goal through the brand is to revive these two words, and I see it as a rebellion, meaning a response. In this sense, I see Vautrait as a dialectical response to the hollowing of the words meaning».

Revolting against the constant need for a new commodity to be consumed, Yonathan Carmel’s latest collection was an ode to handcraft and materials. Comparing a garment to a minimum ingredients dish, he insists that «minimal designs put the quality before the design, as a design that supports quality». Bypassing trends, such a design is not seasonal and can reclaim words such as “permanent” and “eternal”.

The brand caters to a mature target audience. This demographic, characterized by depth of insight rather than mere age, underscores the enduring quality of Vautrait’s products and the artistry of tailoring as a means of sculpting the body, thereby imbuing it with significance and cultural resonance. The body serves as a metaphor for time, akin to aged wine, evolving, adapting, and revealing nuanced qualities through accumulated experiences and heritage.

Vautrait is also one of the few brands prioritizing sustainability. Mass-producing items with a limited lifespan serves no purpose and inferior goods are often masqueraded as desirable solely due to transient trends. However, true timelessness cannot be achieved through mass production, perpetuating environmental degradation. By prioritizing quality, fashion becomes a form of meaningful resistance against this unsustainable cycle.
