Rising to stardom at the young age of 17, Nina Hgaen found herself in London’s 70’s punk scene amongst icons such as the Sexpistsols and Vivienne Westwood, shortly after the popularization of her song “Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen”. The visual interpretation of Nina is reflective of not only the way she outwardly expresses herself but draws from her intellectual expressions as well. This project utilizes ambient lighting as a vessel of authentically exuding the excitement and mystery of the punk scene of the era. The eight characters in this story are styled in different forms of 70s inspired avant-garde looks, whilst incorporating silhouettes and mannerisms of the 21st century. “Stern Madchen” pays homage to the life and experiences of Nina Hagen, who extensively believed the individual has a place in this world.
