Sophie Abady
She may be from a small island but there is nothing small about Sophie Abady’s creative talent nor her bright future. Armed with a degree from Pratt Institute this artist is ready to rumble.
Where are you from originally?
Curaçao, a very small island in the Caribbean.
What exactly did you study and where?
Just graduated with a BFA in Communication Design– concentrating in Graphic Design– from Pratt Institute.
Where do you dream of living and what do you dream of doing?
Between NYC and Berlin, hopefully, doing graphic design and art projects and traveling - because living my truth also means living up to my stereotype.
Have you ever entered a limbo, pie eating or wet t shirt contest?
No, but I did have a luau party for my 11th bday party that featured limbo.
What have you learned in school that you otherwise would not have?
I think most of the learning you do in undergrad happens outside the classroom, on your own time. I just think school provides you with the right amount of pressure, anxiety, self-doubt and criticism to give you enough drive to produce your best work. And the chance to experiment and fail with lower stakes, being in a community that encourages that.
