Saara Untracht-Oakner
Brooklyn-based band BOYTOY’s singer and guitarist Saara Untracht-Oakner has started a project called SUO. Untracht-Oakner’s latest collection of songs under the alias encapsulates a spectrum of emotions.
The debut solo album, Dancing Spots and Dungeons, was birthed after a culmination of 15 years of songwriting and 10 years of national and international touring. With a strong focus on melodies, the tracks were inspired by David Byrne, Prince, Lou Reed, The Supremes, Brian Eno, Grace Jones and Patti Smith
In early September, SUO dropped their first music video for the single Unsatisfied Blood - which was directed by Remy Holwick. Untracht-Oakner said of the song: “I often struggle with the feeling of never being satisfied. I get a little bit, and I want a little bit more. But it’s not always a bad thing. As an artist I think being satisfied leads to complacency. I need that gnawing dissatisfaction to drive me creatively, sexually, emotionally… It’s all the same force. It all makes me want to progress. It all makes me want to want.”
Blurring the lines between feminine and masculine energy, the New York musician and artist looks to create in a post-gender world, and their full record will be out next month on October 18, 2019 with Stolen Body Records.
