Ruby Rhizome
Launching on July 16th, the GENESIS Collection by Ruby Rhizome embarks on a incredible journey that explores the convergence of art, technology, and human experience. This collection is a tribute to the delicate nature of life and the beauty of existence, inspired by the artist's deeply personal transformative journey.
In collaboration with Galleria Perpetua, a forward-thinking Italian start-up specializing in digital art curation and consultancy, the collection features 33 pieces, a number loaded with symbolism. These works will be showcased in a special exhibition on the GP world platform on the Foundation marketplace.
Rhizome’s work delves into the unfiltered essence of human existence, merging seemingly contrasting elements into cohesive expressions. If, as Niels Bohr once said, «the opposite of a great truth is also true» we can confidently say that Ruby is working with the most decisive truths of human experience.
Inspired by a personal medical experience, Rhizome discovered an unexpected beauty in the medical data from an urgent surgery. This fascination with the visual aspects of ECG lines and medical diagrams led to a deeper exploration of the relationship between the human body, nature and their representation. The artist gives the data a reimagined visual “body”.
Influenced by John Ernest Weaver’s ecological theories, Rhizome identified connections between the human body, soil, and heartbeats, symbolizing life and vitality. This realization led to experiments intertwining ECG patterns with elements resembling roots, lightning, leaves, veins, and umbilical cords. Each piece in the GENESIS Collection captures the artist's energy and emotions, expressed through colors, shapes, and movement.
Wonderfully mastered techniques of digital manipulation are the tools through which Rhizome transforms her heartbeat data into visual art, overlaying it onto X-ray scans of her chest. The resulting pieces reflect specific moments in the artist's life, each marked with a timestamp and the artist's signature. Operating on different levels and planes of reality, these artworks remind us how impossible it has become to separate our physical existence from its digital equivalent. It it precisely the role of our imagination to reinterpret this relationship.
Rhizome's research into cymatics further explores how vibrations and frequencies manifest in physical forms, incorporating sacred geometry and sound frequency patterns into the collection. The outcome is a blend of visually striking medical data and organic warmth, symbolizing the interconnectedness of all life and energy forms and offering a profound and thoughtful exploration of the human condition.
