Partiboi69
This Melbournian is more than just his music; Partiboi69 is the Internet content prodigy who operates an absurd Social Media presence and YouTube Channel. The self-acclaimed ‘spiritual leader’, ‘icon’ and ‘prophet’ is making his way through the electronic music scene with high-energy sets, a whacky personality and an air of mystery. Normally accompanied by speed-dealer sunnies and New Balance chains, he could be referred to as the ketamine-fuelled, electronic music version of Adult Swim’s comedy duo, Tim & Eric. Although, never giving too much away, he manages to remain interesting and never boring. Partiboi69 is a fresh, enigmatic and playful character always keeping it 69.
How would you describe you and your music to people who didn’t know you?
Hard ‘n’ fast. Orally pleasurable, visually stimulating in the pants region.
During your show at Radar in your hometown Melbourne, you performed with your sister; is it right to say you were introduced to music early on in a pretty musically inclined household? Is this how you fell into DJing? If not then how and why?
I did indeed, it was a special moment. Shout out to Juicy Romance, love youuuuuu. She was actually meant to be flying to Europe in July to come on tour with me for a few months. Hopefully all returns to normal soon so I can get back on the road and continue to deliver my message of mutual pleasure to my loyal disciples.
Yeah I was raised in a strict musical household. I started out tonguing my one true love, the humble recorder, early on. The recorder is great for training your tonguing accuracy. Once I mastered total tongue control I gravitated to the trumpet and in no time was going brass to mouth with some of the biggest brass boys in the game. I've always been drawn to activities that involve lethal tonguing techniques... DJing came much later in life as a means to accompany my high brow performance art.
You’re obviously known for your ‘visually pleasing’ sets and videos that accompany the Detroit-style ghetto house music you make; what does your creative process look like?
Yes as visually pleasing as they are orally.
My process is pretty run of the mill really, nothing too out of the ordinary if you follow my drift. I usually come up with video concepts first then compose songs to fit the theme of my video idea. Usually when I compose music I centre the songs around a strong lyric or phrase; that usually determines how hard ‘n’ fast the track is going to be.
What does partiboi69 look like when he isn’t making music or performing?
Same drip 24/7 369
Covid-19, self-isolating, lots of time to create - what are you currently working on?
I'm currently working on my religious talk show, 'Chastity Belt' which should be be going into production in the next few weeks. Also have lots of new music in the works including a re-release of my Berghain hit, 'Always Keep It 69' which will be released with a few remixes from some dance music heavy hitters.
Also I’m very passionate about expanding my Tinder networks over the coming months. I'd love to come out of this whole thing with a really extensive world network of like minded creatives and business people to work with post lockdown.
What does the future hold for you?
The future is unclear, there’s a haze blocking my vision past about 6-8 months but I do know it’ll involve a world tour, a new record, horses, horse sports, ball sports with horses and of course, pleasure in equal measure.
