Describe yourself in three words.
Hard Visual Optics.
Your photography focuses on a niche culture in West Berlin; how would you explain it to someone who doesn’t know the city?
West Berlin is the real Berlin, West Berlin is full of contrast, West Berlin is a match between glamorous bohemians andghetto romantic Gangsters. It’s full of Cultures and different languages. It is where all the Legends are Born.
What does film photography mean in 2019?
Film photography means satisfaction to me. Istill have no proof that digital photography is better,or lets say it doesn’t satisfy me like film does. There is no better feeling when you find your right camera, the right film and the right place to develop. I think it’s nostalgia that makes film a bit more exciting because you are focused on 36 pictures, so you can get picky with moments. It’s like a vinyl - the sound is deeper and clearer.Film photography catches more of the moment and the soul.
Where does your fascination for tattoos come from?
Tupac Amaru Shakur and in general Hip Hop Culture. Also in my country, Iran, we have a lot of outlaws who wear crazy tattoos and I always loved them.
Does gang culture influence your photography?
I am not involved in gangs- I am a lone wolf and there aren’t really any "gangs" in Berlin like in Mexico or in other Countries. The people I know who are in kind of gang structures, I am never allowed to take pictures of them.
Some of your photography discusses the war in Palestine. Tell us more about your message.
Free Palestine... It’s a reminder for us all that we will never forget... Shlomo Sand… When Google deleted Palestine from the MapI was very confused, because Palestine is not history.Palestine is alive #freepalestine
Urban culture is influencing high fashion more and more to sometimes an ironic effect. What do you think?
Yes. Urban culture is more than just a trend, because trends come and go. But urban culture has always been a source for inspiration- the Industry copies us. This is nothing new.And it will never change.
What can we look forward to from Momo Maserati?
My West Berlin Zine is currently in progressand soon, if I am allowed to visit my home country again, Iran, I will do a Zine about a subculture that for now remains a secret.
