Lucie Khahoutian
Lucie Khahoutian is an Armenian visual artist born in 1990 in Erevan, Armenia. Khahoutian received a Fine Arts Degree from the American University of Armenia in 2012. Her work consists of collages and photography. Kahoutian’s work creates a dialogue between western contemporary visual culture and strong traditional Armenian references. Important themes include religion, spirituality, and mystical matters.
In “With All This Darkness Round Me I Feel Less Alone” (2016), the Armenian artist dwells on tradition, rituals, and ancestral motifs that are encapsulated in a spiritual, almost dark, manner. The series is haunting and strangely dehumanized, even with the strong presence of subjects in the photos whether visible or not. It begs for a contextual framework, but without this the series captures a suspenseful beauty.
