Daniel Assayag
Daniel Assayag was born in Morocco and grew up amidst an Arab and Jewish-Berber heritage. He studied photography at Gobelins and received his DNSAP at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. Assayag works with a diverse range of mediums which include musical performance, photography, installation, painting, drawing, writing, and graphics. The artist aims to emphasize the content and particular aesthetics of the work and focus less so on the type of medium or platform he is using to convey such content and design.
Common themes in Assayag’s works include deviation, reinventing, irony, and more. His photography comes across as frank, but with a softness to it in dialogue with identity politics and, specifically relating to the artist’s own identity. His works connote the essence of fragility without being so. Assayag currently lives and works in Paris.
