Jubel

Jubel

Having graduated from The London College of Fashion in 2017, Jubel F. formed the brand which is heavily influenced by his childhood in East London and his vision to explore the LGBTQ scene from a fresh perspective. For his last collection, Jubel shed light on the destructivity of plastic pollution on the planet with his collection ‘Grandma Goes Fishing’, which tackled the wastefulness of the fashion industry by upcycling second-hand fabrics and injecting new life into them, transforming them into playful garments.

For Jubel’s newest A/W20 collection, he has rewritten the traditional styles of the British Ascot, focusing on the redefinition of the stereotypically restrictive and confining shapes of the garments. From exaggerated silhouettes demonstrated by the vast hat attached by silk ribbon to the cinched-waist suit jackets, the collection draws attention to and reminds us of the typical whitewashing of the middle class event. This is of course abandoned by Jubel as he explores the LGBTQ scene and racial diversity through his rejuvenation of conventional Ascot designs and his creative decisions for his campaign shoots. The campaign for the collection was shot in Jubel’s hometown Bow in East London – a popular location for warehouse parties. The images, shot by Yis Kid, create a mirage over the looks, as if the model is still out in the early morning after a night out, which is only enhanced thanks to Borys Korban’s styling.

With Jubel’s reformative visions for his collection, it is only fitting that he turned to Tide Casting to find provide the model and offer their services for creative direction. Started by Rory Griffin and Zoard Heuze, the casting and management duo casted model Johan for the campaign, who perfectly highlights the juxtaposition between masculinity and the feminine shapes of the garments. For his A/W20 show in January, Jubel will be taking over The Conduit as he mimics the exclusivity of the Ascot whilst redefining the term through the casting and the blending of masculinity and femininity in his garments.
