Punk is not dead: This hairartist from Berlin knows how to set styles on fire
Structure, Fluidity, Color, Natural Movement: What do you like about working with hair?
I love the structure of the hair and the different possibilities you have to play with it. Most of all I love to paint around it and make it colorful.
Would you consider hair artists as architects in a certain way?
In any case, you have to build the foundation to create something, like with a wig or an elaborate pinned-up hairstyle. If you can't build it statically, it won't hold.
How important is the hair to face ratio/ proportion, when you do your cuts?
Very important: I cut by feel. How the hair structure falls, feels and stands to the harmony of the face is crucial. It is also very important to me that my customers go home and get along with the cut on the long run - and not only for the moment.
What was your favourite work you did so far?My hairstyle "Frank" with the Flames is my favourite work so far. My friend Mateusz von Motz (@vonmotz) is an artist and photographer, he studied with Jürgen Teller. We are working together on his book project. Unfortunately his father died last year and left him an old hotel on Usedom on the polish side. Now he has made it his business to get all the stuff out of the hotel and store it in an airport hangar, the owner of the hangar being: Frank. I immediately grew fond of this lovely guy and painted his name with flames on his head. It was a very personal project for me.
In the COVID-19 times: how does Berlin feel, when you’re stuck at home?
I was in Sweden shooting a cinema movie with Ruben Östlund "Triangle Of Sadness" which will be released next year, so I didn't get to see much of the shut down in Berlin. It all happened in the last 10 days when i wasn't there. I see it all positive though, everything is slowing down, people are falling out of their usual routine and are forced to deal with themselves. The nature can recover and hopefully we will finally come to our senses. More wake up call than this is not possible. I will continue to enjoy my hairart and plan to go more into the current topics to what is happening with us.
The lascivious eternal blonde: What hairtsyle would you do on Marylin Monroe?
I'd shave her a buzz cut, dye her pink and paint "IT WAS ALL A DREAM" on her with red letters.
Future is …
The future is to realize that we are all people who have not chosen to be on this earth. We all have the same feelings and long for love. I hope that the world wakes up now. We need to start respecting ourselves, the nature and the animals equally. We also need to realize that the capitalist madness must end.The future is to find humanity again: PEACE & LOVE.
