Cherrie B

From her early days as a devoted K-pop fan to her current position as a rising star in the music scene, Cherrie's journey has been nothing short of fascinating.

While we chat with Cherrie, we'll uncover the hidden facets of her musical evolution, her unexpected passion for ASMR, the raw emotions that fuel her songwriting, and the creative process behind her debut EP, 'Eternal Blossom.'

Hey Cherrie - thanks for chatting with Coeval! Let's jump straight into it... Can you take us back to your childhood and share some early musical influences that might have contributed to your unique style?

I was a huge K-pop fan and have a whole library of second-gen K-pop songs in my brain. The groups that had more of an electronic sound (like 2ne1, f(x), and 4 minutes) definitely influenced my taste in production and writing style in my music now. I’ve always loved the pace/tempo of pop music and how it extends to live performances and music videos with dance routines and outfits. And you can see that I still love it today!

Can you share a fun or unexpected fact about yourself that your fans might not be aware of?

I probably listen to more ASMR than music. I’ve been wanting to do ASMR videos for the past 10 years but I’ve never done it… not sure why, but I’m sure I’d be good at it from watching and listening to it so much.

How do you prepare yourself to bring such vulnerability and raw emotion to your music?

It's really how I feel at the time. I mostly wrote these songs in the midst of feeling negative emotion, and it all spills out during the writing process. It’ll come quite easily to me. Sometimes I won’t even be quite aware that’s how I'm feeling until weeks after the songs have been recorded and get to hear it for what it is in its entirety.

"Eternal Blossom" is your debut EP has just come out. Could you give us a glimpse into the creative process behind it?

Feel it. Write it. Record it.

The most important thing is that I'm in a state where I feel free to express and create with no expectations or restrictions and not tweak what I've created too much.

Each song on "Eternal Blossom" seems to have its unique character. Could you walk us through the different tracks and the emotions or stories behind them?

IDKW is a trance pop song that’s energetic and a bit moody. It’s an introspection of a toxic relationship. Drama is an act of rebellion against a situationship. It’s fun and energetic with a catchy hook. Falling on a High is also energetic but has phases of ambience, making it euphoric. The sound matches what the song is about - which is falling in love in a euphoric state. Piece of me is the shattering aftermath of a relationship where someone has taken power from me for their own benefit. It’s celestially ambient. Daisies is like a dramatic breakup song where I’m waking up and seeing the relationship for what it was. It has a melancholy sound with power.

The EP marks you as an artist to watch in the contemporary music landscape. What aspects of your music do you feel set you apart and make "Eternal Blossom" stand out?

I’m an all-around artist that goes beyond just the music. I create my own visuals from artwork to photos to videos. I have a wide variety of influences and references that make my sound different. And I write about things that are meaningful and true to me that people can relate to.

Can you tell us about some of the challenges and milestones you've encountered along the way that have led you to this point in your career?

Coming out of my shell and feeling confident enough to be heard, collaborate and ask for things. I’ve gone from secretly writing songs and hiding that part of myself from my peers (and even myself) to being more open to collaborating with people around me in all aspects. It’s been the most challenging thing for me not just in my music career, but in my life! And for that reason, overcoming it has been a milestone for me.

As an artist, what are your plans for the future? Are there any exciting projects or collaborations on the horizon that you can share with your fans?

I’m going to be releasing some singles! So that means more videos, more looks and more performances!
