Ben Crank
Ben Crank has found his groove as a solo artist with his debut single ‘Green Baize’ from his upcoming EP. Along with ‘Green Baize,’ is a retro futuristic visual companion directed by Ben. Taking inspiration from 70’s and 80’s cinema, the video was filmed on VHS and set amongst brutalist architecture along with the neon lights of an arcade. The straight laced and suited version of Ben chases after the more sinister version mirroring the lyrics of the song, “the song is a story of running away and chasing something, when someone is giving you just enough to keep going” says Ben.
‘Green Baize’ is a change of direction from his work in Arable Desert. His solo sound is more acoustic with notes of Hawaii, B rated Country, and the songwriters of the 1970s. “I went to a charity shop and bought loads of Hawaiian vinyls and I tried to find my own song in those, with my own spin.” The bubbly tropical sound mixed with notes of country and set against a brutalist backdrop brings you into Ben Crank’s dystopian bubble.
