Bea1991
After introducing yacht-pop to the world with her debut album, BEA1991 has returned with a suitcase full of lost demos - stream here. Recovered from the Brand New Adult sessions, she recently took on the task of polishing up 4 choice cuts. Deliberately stepping away from the tracks, denying herself the pursuit of perfection, they’re united by a common purpose and an unvarnished sheen.
‘For Money’ is the twin of debut album track ‘loser wins’, flirting with the same piano stabs, and doubling up on endings, welcoming us back to Bea. ‘Yu York’, however, quickly diverts from the script, cuts up her vocals, and stitches them back into a vital, haunting tapestry, digging a tight, ominous groove. ‘Seasonal’ peppers plastic funk with throwaway voice notes and horror samples, flipping the beat and challenging listeners again and again; closing track, ‘Vizinho_0’ completes the EP and pushes her ethereal sound even further from safety.
On the EP, BEA1991 explains: “Despite their previous ineligibility to contribute, I wanted to give the tracks a purpose as a small entity of oddballs. They all share the fact that they were disregarded, and I find this very cute and in a conceptual way, very relevant. I deliberately left a few undeveloped parts unfinished - hard for me, solidifying for the concept. Also, I wanted to give everyone supporting me a nice Xmas Present :---)”
If you’ve flown over the holidays, your late luggage has just arrived - relax back into your returned clothes of the Lost Demo EP. Merry Christmas from BEA1991, and see you in 2020!
