Anastasiia Chorna’s 24/7 McDonald’s series came about when the photographer needed somewhere to be late at night and the fast food joint was the only place that was open all day and night. The particular location for her series was in New York’s Lower East Side.

“I feel like many desperate people spend their days as in a shelter there except the ordinary guests. I shot some ex con artist and homeless weirdo, some old man wanted to date me, some nice homeless guy told us his life story and my boyfriend bought him some essentials and food. I went there early in the morning, at night and during the day to photograph people and the surroundings of the restaurant.”

The series gives off a warmth to the commercial joint and depicts it as a safe haven for many. One can imagine it housing the tagged graffiti culture, the conversations taking place or not, the deep fried something smells emanating, and the comfort with the familiarity of it all.
