In this exhibition, artist Shaan Bevan will make a distinction between energetic, pleasureful rest as opposed to the dissociative rest that he struggles with. His research started with the biological history of sun metabolism and evolved into researching lithographic limestone quarries in southern France, contemplating the calm deep ocean basin calcareous deposits from which they were formed, and the violent tropical storms which define the boundaries between the layers. Shaan’s work is inspired by the body interacts with the environment materially — using lithographic stone as a metaphor.
