In the tradition which ties aesthetic production to fundamental mathematical elements Japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda stands out as the preeminent exponent. Berlin Atonal, in collaboration with silent green, is proud to host the German iteration of Ikeda’s latest major audiovisual project ultratronics [live set]. The new performance is based on the universalist principles laid out in Ikeda’s latest album ultratronics which was his first release in over a decade when it came out in 2022 and contained material designed between 1989 and 1999, along with more recent compositions developed between 2013 and 2022.
ultratronics [live set] is the culmination of Ikeda’s career long obsession with data-driven research and the ways in which the perceiving subject experiences sonic and visual phenomena, particularly when they are driven to their extremes. His audiovisual shows are operations of a particular mathematico-symbolic structure which exist as temporal artifices constructed out of the universe of pure tones, sine waves, white noise and light.
Supporting the show is German artist Pyur, aka Sophie Schnell, whose electronic compositions focus on condensed, pulsating forms that are minimal in structure and expansive in emotional texture. Her work explores the raw interplay between inner turbulence and the chaotic beauty of the external world through meticulously layered and precise sound design, pushing the boundaries of frequency and dynamic range to create immersive, multidimensional sonic environments.
Warning: this show will contain loud-noises and strobing light effects and is not recommended for people that may be sensitive to these phenomena.
