Ncontemporary presents the debut exhibition of Ilya Fedotov-Fedorov's works in Milan. Born in Russia in 1988 and currently based in New York, Fedotov-Fedorov is an interdisciplinary artist whose recent endeavors have revolved around themes of personal identity and the interplay between "normalcy" and ecology. With a background in genetic engineering, Fedotov-Fedorov has long embraced a strategy of scientific and museological collection and classification as the cornerstone of his artistic practice. At the heart of his creations are animal-like figures, reminiscent of entomological studies, employed to challenge the conventional boundary separating the human from the "other." Fedotov-Fedorov's art is a deliberate attempt to deconstruct the social constructs that constrain personal identification. By challenging societal norms and prompting alternative perspectives, he interrogates the concept of "normalcy," encouraging a lateral vision. His works investigate themes such as bodily dissociation, masking, and otherness, utilizing creatures as metaphors for the human disconnect experienced in contemporary society.
