Stefan Marx - Marble Works

  • settantaventidue 1 Via Lodovico Il Moro Milano, Lombardia, 20143 Italy (map)

Stefan Marx’s exhibition in Canal Project Room, curated by Valentino Tonini, is the first Italian exhibition by the artist.
.
Stefan Marx is a German contemporary artist recognized for his distinctive line drawings, text-based pieces, and playful notes.
Born in 1979, Marx draws heavily from subcultures such as music, zine making and changing environments by traveling, often infusing his work with a whimsical yet thought-provoking quality.
His signature style revolves around simple yet expressive linework paired with quirky, handwritten text, frequently offering humorous or reflective commentary on our lives.
In addition to his work on paper and canvas, Marx is deeply involved in zine culture, creating numerous self-published artist books and collaborating with independent publishers and galleries.
His collaborations extend to the fashion world, with brands like @commedesgarcons and @supremenewyork , as well as musicians and record labels. Marx's work has been exhibited internationally, from galleries to major art fairs, and he remains an influential figure in blending artistic expression with pop and youth culture influences.
.
For this new exhibition, Stefan Marx has created an unpublished series of works on marble, produced through handcrafting with mechanical tools. These works take up his iconic drawings and canvas pieces, transposing his signature lettering and motives onto a new type of medium he explored during his stays close to Bergamo where he worked closely with Abram Bianchi.
