Hundebiss & Sayri presents:
AMARU’S TONGUE: DAUGHTER
A Film by Chuquimamani-Condori & Joshua Chuquimia Crampton

Lunedì 8 Aprile
Cinema Beltrade
ore 21:45

Chuquimamani-Condori’s film, shot mainly on 8mm film with hand-drawn animations and a score by Joshua Chuquimia Crampton, commemorates the artists’ late grandmother, Flora Tancara Quiñonez Chuquimia.

It explores the ceremony within stories of resistance of the Aymara people, an indigenous nation spanning Bolivia, Chile, Peru, and globally, emphasizing ancestral ties and rituals.

The film depicts Flora’s journey to death over three years, guided by a dog, a condor, and a hummingbird, in line with Aymara and Quechua conceptions of the transition to death. Voices of Flora, her sister Mercedes, and the artists’ mother narrate through a silicone figure resembling Flora and ancestors, symbolizing the Pachamama, the cosmic grandmother.

“Amaru’s Tongue: Daughter” intertwines Aymaran abolitionist history with the black radical tradition, inviting imaginative exploration. It maps “abolition geographies,” considering our connection to Pachamama and the elements.

Commissioned by Auto Italia, and produced by Auto Italia, London; Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève; and Haus der Kunst, Munich.
