Y/Project AW19
Set amongst the classical 18th century architecture interspersed with original Art Deco features of la maison de la chimie, Y/Project AW19 presented an eclectic view of modern elegance. Underpinned by Glenn Marten’s usual attention to construction, the mix of luxurious fabrics and reimagined shapes create a new sense of drama and sensuality. Inspired by a range of references from the Middle Ages to the 70s, transparent skin-tight latex and tweed coats with faux fur details mixed with oyster pearl earrings to create an image of a strong, sophisticated yet modern woman. Although classic colours and ideas remained present, every look had been rethought and updated to fit the current age. Presented as it was, with historical enthusiast Martens’ accordion bags, sweater dresses and tutor inspired wedding gown, it suggested a somewhat “timeless” image that supersedes age and date.
