Existing within undefined identity, kęnåï is a fragment of a broader project composed of different subjectivities and medias, along with @y3000w’s wider imaginative world. Irreducible beyond the limits of a body, it spreads through sonic environments, microworlds as frames of experiences and emotive photography, finding in the mashes of the net their optimal collective communicative dimension.
Finding connections and coexistence with each element of the natural or digital world, @y3000w goes deep down the motifs behind their multispecies encounters.
Your identity is kind of a mystery since I’ve been reaching out your works through instagram. Who or what is kęnåï?
Kęnåï is one of the many doors to my personality I decide to keep open to the internet. From this point of view, kęnåï, y3000w, and corazón cristalino are all parts of my identity that become dispersed through the web in which I leave pieces of my soul, fractured across different forms of media. Kęnåï is also the name I use on SoundCloud where I share various moods and states of being, translated to sound as songs and mixes. Just as kęnåï exists as one portal, y3000w exists as another world where I share my process of emotional alleviation through experimental photography.
Through the internet, a world called y3000w opens where I can express what I feel and experience. Here, the different microworlds intersect by chance instances and the inhabitants of different realms coexist. Everything from minerals to astral beings are linked through coincidental situations that only last for milliseconds but generate lifeforms that feed and exist off of the desire to expand and the need to cleanse my heart in a divine offering of love. Y3000w is also love. Unconditional love that forms a connection to my childhood. It speaks to the personal need for bravery and gratitude towards every tiny moment, every person that surrounds me, every drop, every whisper. Of interconnectedness. My friends and I refer to y3’s images as “the life of a bubble”, the exact moment in which these microworlds become perceptible.
For me art heals and transforms.
Your images are sort of underwater microworlds looked through the lens of photography experimentation, focused on light, compositions and consistencies using plastic, flowers, water, garments, mushrooms, and others unrecognizable objects and materials. Named by evocative titles like “manto de angeles y seres acuaticos nutriendose de la luz purificandose con el sonido del viento”, are you interested in some kind of narrative dynamics when creating your images? And, how do you build up your work in the process?
y3000w doesn’t exist at any given time, it isn’t something that develops or manifests every day. Realistically, it is something that wakes within me only in my most spiritually elevated moments. I take the time to inhabit these moments and recall the elements that give life to my work.
This manifests visually through the swirling of air, of water, and of life, intertwining to generate experimental images that have a life of their own. From here, naming is an automatic and self-generative process that develops naturally from this framework. Everything comes from the heart of an emotion, a knowing. By recalling natural elements and intervening to join them to a specific moment, I’m able to liberate an emotion in the form of a photograph.
y3000w originated at the beginning of quarantine while I lived with my mother where I felt it was my duty to balance the spaces I occupied in order to achieve a sort of harmony within the home. There was a moment one afternoon where I left home with my basket to collect things that intrigued me to experiment with. This outing helped me learn to live within the present moment, love my environment, and become reacquainted with solitude. Afterwards, I would return home with my collection, and choose tones that reminded me of each moment and situation, recognizing each color as a distinct emotion.
This was something I truly enjoyed. I saw beings of other planes within these images. This drove me to question how something so magnificent could occur within the scale of a single image. There’s a story from quarantine where a group of close friends were taking lsd and were overwhelmed upon seeing these photographs. I could see the very instant this microworld was captured and truly begin to understand the energy these photos contain. This birthed the epigraph featured on the y3000w instagram that it was “perfect to appreciate on an acid trip.”
Everything moved, even the reflection of the flash echoed the movement, captured throughout the fractals that store the information of the specific instant, coded throughout the reflections that inhabit the photographs. This revolutionized my way of viewing art.
Since the moment I began to make these images, I continue to create them with all my love. Art goes further than just producing a work. The fleeting emotions of the moment, and the energy that one brings is constantly reflected in the final product, a transmission.
These images have always been made in a similar process, however I now only choose 1 or 3 from around 500 photos.
Where does your personal imagery come from and what inspires you?
The personal image of y3000w comes from light.
Something that inspires and motivates me is the love of those around me. The love I find inside my heart is guided by the inspiration of simple play. I look for artistic inspiration while meditating. The astral plane, dreaming of water, cetacean codes, angels, archangels, fairies and elves, sapphire codes, numbers, crystalline reflections, messages I code in order to learn from, that drive me to create. Every image posted online has an important spiritual meaning for me, as they’re deeply related to a special day spent only on self-love, internal peace, and connecting with my guides. It’s so beautiful I get chills just thinking about it.
I found out you also have a soundcloud account, with tracks named “y3000w” or “k ✧ tt༺💜༻”and mixes “crystal arcoiris”, “m1xY7y7Y ✿★~(◠﹏⊙✿)”. Are they part of a bigger project you have in mind? Is it the sound dimension something you would like to explore maybe in communion with your images?
Yes, everything that refers to music at this point in my life is intrinsically related to ambient sounds, indescribable sound waves that go beyond notes. Sounds deconstructed to the point of abstraction like the images of y3000w. Sounds that transport like wind and tree branches in atmospheric rhythm that generate an almost intangible dimension. Kęnåï shares the desire to capture specific moments, like y3000w. The mixes use all the energy contained within an instance because I create them with my entire heart.
What would you like to experiment with in order to deepen your artistic research in the future?
I would like to keep expanding my experimentation with the natural/digital/tangible, to try new textures and enlarge them. I feel that everything is part of this microworld that is generated, and experimentation has no limits as every microworld is unique and infinite.
I’m now exploring a new medium, resin, in order to translate my pieces into something more tangible. I would love to experiment in the future with different crafts like clothing and accessories.
