Spent
Spent is a queer, non-binary producer and vocalist who is currently situated in North East London. Their tracks encircle around glitched and heavily processed sounds. With the lyrics, Spent writes to navigate their identity whilst questioning gender norms.
In January, Spent released their first music video in the series for ‘Lift Me Up’ which was directed by Ben Cole.
This time for ‘If I Could Cry’, Spent chose film director Fraser Hanley-Nicholls to create their vision. The video, which features a collection of Spent’s closest friends, has a party like atmosphere which portrays how Spent learnt to deal with their emotions through a difficult period in their life. Spent decided to revisit the lyrics for ‘If I Could Cry’ after their recovery which enabled them to create a more upbeat interpretation of the song. They say themselves “As a result, the song is really personal and desperate but simultaneously so fun and danceable.
