What is the fashion scene like in Antwerp? Can you describe your average Antwerp "fashionista"? What do MOST people wear? What do YOU wear?
For me, the scene of fashion in Antwerp is "clam, cold and edge”. I am not a person who goes out often. Most of the people I meet are my classmates in school (Antwerp fashion department). As an art school where everyone has their own attitude, there are many different types of people: colorful people that like to wear sporty stuff or Gothic black styles…or some people love to wear vintage clothes. Most people wear hoodies. I wear everything! My wardrobe is like a grocery store but I prefer to wear sporty clothes more.

What is the whole point of fashion design for you personally? How do you defend yourself when people say this industry is silly or frivolous?
Traditionally, exaggerated costumes represented women and ultimately sportswear represented men. I'm interesting in combining the these two areas. I hope to do something new with this integration. I hope to create a new sense of DRAMA. For me personally, clothing is gender-free. I hope that my designs are for individuals with a distinct personality and not too focused on gender. I don't defend myself, I am doing what I want to do, no time to waste.

How do sportswear and dance wear make their way into your designs? Do you play sports? Do you dance?
I studied musical performances in China before I came to Antwerp fashion department. I don't exercise except dancing, haha! In my last years at college, I went to the music troupe for my internship and became a musical actor. When I was backstage, I had chance to see a lot of beautiful Costumes. During that time I was thinking about my future career and wondering if I could make those beautiful things as well. These experiences inspired me to do a lot. This is why dance wear is always such a part of my designs.
