Neocristo
A journey through 3D artist Neocristo’s mind, and his innovative 3D art. An online alter ego exploring the artists identities and interests through his creations as a way to explore intimate parts of himself as well as working towards becoming an example for future queer Latin-American artists.
Hello Neo.Cristo, can you please introduce yourself? Where are you from? How long have you been designing? How did you start?
Hi, I'm Neocristo, a latin artist, from Chile. I'm a 3D artist but I'm also experimenting in music and fashion. I like to think of art as "everything". I started to be popular when I entered the "metaverse" designing my 3D world and creating the character NEOCRISTO.
What are your inspirations?
I'm inspired by many things, I use a lot of intuition.
Above all my identity: Latino, otaku, travesti, non-binary, gender fluid, queer, fat, slut (did I say slut hahaha?). But above all, I am inspired by faith. The power that faith has to transform everything.
In your creations we can see elements of anime, drag queens, lgbt+, as well as yourself in different types of bodies, also girls with more masculine bodies. Can you explain how your creative process works?
They are experiences, ideas that I express in 3D. Neocristo is a character that lives on the internet, a "digital alter-ego". The processes that happen in my life are appreciated in a more fantastic way. I don't have a creative process, on the contrary, sometimes I make works without thinking about it, and at the end, I realize that I was representing something very personal. For example, accepting my pectorals that are big and look like women's breasts.
What is the message that you are trying to send with your art?
I like to think of art as a link to get to know me. Especially my unconscious. It is a way of getting to know each other. In Latin America there are few 3D artists who have a Queer vision and who mix these codes with "pop" ideas. I would like to be a reference for new generations.
You also do music, how did it came about mixing the two elements of 3D art and music?
I never imagined that I would be able to create 3D and the same thing happened to me with music. I think it's a blessing. I made music while I was thinking about building my alter-ego, more than 5 or 6 years ago. I didn't really know what I wanted to represent but I knew that social networks are an extension of us and creating 3d animations and music, having the same person doing both, is amazing. It makes the project take on a life of its own.
Who are your musical inspirations?
I really like the Chilean and Latin urban scene in general. Tomasa del Real, Polima Weastcost, Tokisha, Arca, and many others.
You have worked with many different artists in diverse projects, but what is your dream collaboration?
Lady Gaga or Bjork, I love them and they inspire me a lot. Also Arca or Rosalia. The song Judas by Lady Gaga, for me is very special. In animation I dream of meeting Hideaki Anno, creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion. He changed my life.
What are your plans for the future? What is your goal with 3D art and music?
I want to grow the NEOCRISTO project. Music is a way a link to tell my story, my experiences, my crazy things. I also work with other artists, recreating them in 3D, which feeds my own "metaverse". I have worked with very well known artists in Chile, like Tomasa del Real or Dj Lizz.
I am also planning new music.
Can you give us a sneak preview of the single?
This February 27th we will release the single "Michi Miau" on all platforms. The single was produced by Zevra. A great friend, we have worked on other singles and we share queer visions in life and art. This single talks about the strange relationship you have with your cats, it's very kawaii. I made an animation especially for Coeval, I hope you like it!
