Mohawk Bob
This 53-year-old Dad from might be the new Bob Ross - but of Mohawks. Just the perfect dose of color, brush and soothing peacefulness everybody needs.
When did you start your legendary mohawk looks?
I started my Mohawk 2 years ago this March. The Elementary School asked fathers to be present on the playground before and after school to be positive role models. My intent was to have a Mohawk for crazy hair day then shave it off the next day. A lot of the kids that go there do not have fathers or any male role models in their life. The mascot is a dragon so I’m a “Dragon Dad”. I love being a dragon dad and enjoy being around all the kids. But everyone loved it I kept it. And here we are 2 years later. My wife used to call my Mohawk a mid-life crisis. She was fine with it, because at least I wasn’t out looking for younger women or faster cars. But now after 2 years she says I’m obsessed with it.
What inspires you these days?
First my kids inspire me to be the best dad that I can be. My job as their dad is to teach them to be great people with great morals to be honorable adults. The second part is the joy I have doing all the different Mohawks. My tag line that I use is bringing smiles back one Mohawk at a time. My job lets me wear my Mohawks to work where all my customers really enjoy them. I really believe I make a lot of people smile. I do it to make people happy.
Which animals do you hate - and why?
I don’t hate any animal. I’m afraid of snakes and I don’t like cats. But I don’t hate any living thing. But I do hate vegetables though.
How do people react to your styles - tell us the best and the worst experience.
For the most part it’s positive. Some of the comments amaze me. I do Mohawks for others either honoring America and this great country we live in - or in honor of someone who has passed away. I’ve had many people tell me how inspiring I am and how I can make them smile when they are having a bad day. I’ve been called the “Mohawk King” or “Mohawk God” but I’m neither. The worst comments were on my support for the police-Mohawk. It was a black Mohawk with a thin blue line. When I posted it on Instagram it created so much HATE-speech I had to take it down. I was sad how so many people had so much hate for their police that serve and protect everyday and put their life on the line everyday. I never want to offend anyone, that’s not my intent. Now I stay away from political Mohawks. But I do support the police and was sad because I can’t show it.
What career are you pursuing?
I’m 53 I’ve been in customer service my whole life and I love it. I love helping and serving others.
What would your dream vacation look like?
My dream vacation would be to go to the British Isles. I’ve been there twice and I’d like to take my wife and kids, they’ve never been. My boys are really into history and I think they would really enjoy it.
