This summer, Mateja, one half of the photography duo Duljak Bergstrand, stepped in front Niklas's lens for the first time for a particularly important photoshoot. At the time, Mateja was pregnant with their daughter Ronja, who was born just a few weeks after the shoot. While most photos of pregnant women are delicate and soft this photoshoot challenges that notion and presents Mateja as a strong and powerful woman who is creating life.

While the styling is quite modern there is an underlying animalistic sense to the photos that is shown through the textures of the clothes and the natural background. The use of snakeskin, leather, and fishnets combined with the Mateja’s pregnant belly creates a sensual and visceral image. Standing amongst the trees and long grass, Mateja challenges the stereotypes associated with relationship between pregnancy and womanhood.
