Facetasm SS24
Facetasm brought a youthful atmosphere at Paris Fashion Week with its new spring/summer 2024 collection “Coming of Age”. With colorful designs and fine details, Hiromichi Ochiai, the Japanese designer behind Facetasm, tells a nostalgic tale inspired by his 7-year-old son Shiro’s transition to adolescence.
Ochiai created a collection based on the memories and feelings of childhood. The result is a colourful and vivid collection that celebrates the joys and struggles of growing up. The collection embraces the fantasy and childhood euphoria with shirts featuring four layers of sleeves and others covered in layers of tulle. Several oversized knitwear iterations feature kaleidoscopes of color, and a slew of silhouettes center neon paint splatters. Pattern-clad denim, striped knitwear, paint-splattered statements and punchy design codes.
This is a fantasy collection created from the memories and feelings of a landscape from which I can no longer return, the process of him becoming him,” the collection notes read. “When a 7-year-old reaches puberty.”
The collection’s details are all about naive styling, with ruffle-edged applique stripes in different shades and pleated chiffon layers that trail vaporous behind cute denim overalls. Jackets featured double denim marked with big polka-dot patterns and paint splotches, layered in black or white. The ruffles in the collection gained volume throughout the show, seeming to veer in all directions.
Ochiai’s fantasy creates a beautiful and poignant collection that encapsulates the childhood joy and innocence. As the designer said: “Like emotions, you can’t direct them”.
And Facetasm’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection is a perfect mirror of how emotions cannot be controlled.
