DURAN LANTINK SS25

DURAN LANTINK SS25

Fresh off winning LVMH’s prestigious Karl Lagerfeld Prize, the Dutch designer is attracting a lot of attention from fashion insiders eager to understand what makes his work so compelling. The Lagerfeld Prize celebrates innovative young designers, and Lantink certainly fits the bill with his bold, avant-garde approach that blends creativity, silhouette reinvention with an almost metaphysical approach to garment construction and, risk-taking.

At his Spring/Summer '25 show, Lantink drew inspiration from childhood memories of Ibiza holidays. This nostalgic theme was expressed in his unique way, through pieces made entirely of upcycled materials, reinforcing his commitment to sustainable fashion. His approach is not just about creating visually striking pieces but also about addressing the needs and realities of today’s fashion industry.

This collection, with its blend of practicality and artistry, is a testament to his ability to push boundaries while maintaining a sense of wearability. One of the standout pieces of the show was a black leather bomber jacket worn by Dutch model Rianne Van Rompaey.

This season, Lantink also brought a beach-inspired twist to his designs, incorporating inner tube-like padding into one-piece swimsuits and giving bikini tops an exaggerated, almost cartoonish uplift. Full-body bodysuits, padded at the joints, gave models an insect- or alien-like appearance—playful and unsettling at the same time.

Jersey fabrics, typically associated with everyday comfort, were transformed into imaginative forms, such as t-shirt pants, bomber jackets, and even trench coats. This transformation of the ordinary into something extraordinary was a central theme throughout the collection, with sculptural forms that warped and enhanced the body. Bras became exaggerated, bodysuits featured padded hips and knees, and the brand’s debut bag doubled as headwear or perched high on the shoulder.
