Busu Meansugly
Busu means ugly appears as a concept of [not wanting to] fit into society.” A new project, ‘REAL FRIENDS’ is part of the new brand, busu_meansugly’ launched by Natalia, a Madrid-based fashion design major who graduated in 2019.
She calls the clothes ugly, as a means to abject beauty and style ideals. The five printed graphic tees were given birth by Natalia and her friends during the lockdown: I wanted to show and express everything we’ve been through.
The constant video-calls, me living in the UK and them living in Spain, COVID-19… The life.” Naturally, each shirt speaks for a different aspect of her exposition, touching on different subjects from her Spanish roots, social distancing protocols, the Brexit-KFC ordeal, living a life of confinement, to the normalcy of instagram filters. This of course is presented through a Lo-Fi y2k style shoot featuring all the shirts produced by the power of friendship and in the name of ‘optimistic ugliness’.
