Ashley Armitage
Looking at Ashley Armitage’s photos is like stepping into an alternate retro pastel universe. The 23 year old photographer curates Girlfriend Gallery and studied photomedia at the Univeristy of Washington. Armitage’s main focus in her photography is on the female and femme experience. Her works strive to promote an intersectional feminism and “reclaiming our representations through a girl gaze.” The photographer’s motto is more or less girls by girls and works towards a dimensional definition of what it is to be a girl or femme-identifying. Her saccharine and cotton-candy colored photos play on old school stereotypes of femininity, yet do not ascribe to narrow definitions or idealized images. The photographer is currently based in Seattle, Washington.
