What is your favourite aspect of living in Los Angeles?
The sunset's are exceptional every day and one thing I've learned about myself is that I really just can't abide by bad weather. Los Angeles is so amazing in that you can drive an hour in one direction and be up in the mountains with like pine trees and snow or you can drive an hour in another direction and be deep in the desert. I guess it's ironic that my favorite thing about LA is that it's so easy to escape.
What exactly are Curatorial Studies and why did you choose to study it?
I basically just studied a lot of art history and a bit of exhibition making. I think I chose it because I thought it would be a good way to study art, but still end up making money. That reasoning was completely misguided, no regrets though.
What are the key differences between art and fashion?
Well, one can be worn.
Should thrift shopping be considered a part of high fashion?
Who is anyone to determine what is high and what is low really. High fashion is a concept invented by the bourgousie!! I think it's really interesting that clothing resale is a big thing now and a lot of 'high fashion' brands are sort of co-opting thrift store clothes to be a part of their brand, making their own 'vintage lines'. I saw the other day that even forever 21 is doing some sort of repurposed clothing line now.
How would you describe a typical LA girl?
LA girls are playing their best selves in their first starring role in an autobiographical film.
Can fashion contribute to world peace?
No, but I think it should try anyways. I do think fashion can be inspiring and empowering if wielded correctly and that inspired, empowered people can certainly contribute to world peace.
What is your favourite selfie angle?
Oh man, I was just Face Timing and my friend could tell every time I tried to take a screen shot because I immediately made my selfie face. It's so uncontrollable. And last night at a show some girls I'm very fond of spent a significant amount of time imitating my selfie face! So whatever it is must be pretty predictable.
How would other people describe your fashion sense?
I always joke that my style is Silver Lake Mom, but I'm not really joking and others tend to agree. I guess that's kind of niche and only makes sense if you're familiar with LA. Hold on, I'll phone a friend...she said "Morbid Secretary" and another friend said "Boyish and Business-like". I'm really pleased with those answers, thanks friends!
