Photography series ‘A Very Western Affair’ is a quasi-renaissance cowboy fantasia, merging opulence with the essence of true Americana. Inspired by Olivia Sonia Pudelko’s label Western Affair, photographer Nicole Ngai and creative director Joe Parker sought to create a fantastical world in which Pudelko’s designs could truly belong. The result? A modern renaissance with a hint of yee-haw. Celestial paintings and satin drapes frame models adorned in jewel-encrusted cowboy hats, painterly knickers, big buckle belts and oversized white lace collars. Whilst open passion fruits, silver goblets and lines of pearls create an aura of kitschy-romanticism. In combining cultural history and contemporary aesthetics, the series resembles Renaissance portraiture for the Instagram-era.
